In order to understand Phillipe Beneton’s core argument in Equality by Default, it is important to first analyze the significance of the word choice in the title. Beneton clearly suggests in his title that equality by default is disconnected from other forms of equality, namely substantial equality. Substantial equality is based upon the pretext that â€Å"men are alike before they are different† which leads to the healthy conclusion that men are equal because we are all unequivocally human. Meanwhile, equality by default also concludes that all men are equal, however, this conclusion comes through a very different thought process. Plato uses the allegory of the cave to represent the journey of the philosopher as he challenges the commonly held beliefs in a city, and further seeks after enlightenment as well as virtue, which he refers to as the good. Plato further demonstrates that all men are in the cave to some extent as our perceptions of reality are almost entirely shaped by the understanding that our cities and cultures afford to us. In Plato’s eyes, it is absolutely vital to free oneself from the chains of the cave, and to venture out in pursuit of truth, knowledge, wisdom, and excellence. However, according to Beneton, equality by default suggests that, â€Å"reason is cut off from life†(21) and that this creates a situation in which, â€Å"the vital questions are matters of o pinion, and all opinions are equal† (21). This understanding suggests that under rule of equality by default, it is no better to enlighten oneself, and to search for virtue outside of the cave than to remain chained to ignorance while watching â€Å"shadowy nothings† move accross the wall. Only 37% of the students responded that they are ethical consumer whereas 12% responded that they are not at all ethical consumer. On the other hand, a question has been asked about which factors mostly influence their buying behaviour; is it price, quality, convenience or brand image. Therefore, it has been known that most of the respondents agreed on price, second brand image and third quality. It can be understood that if the price of the products are reasonable then they will prefer buying more products. Moreover, the quality of the product is not given high points as they do not understand the importance of quality. The other question that was asked is about whether they understand ethical consumerism or not. It was known from their response that most of the students do understand the concept of ethical consumerism. The students responded that ethical consumerism is about buying products that are ethically manufactured without hurting animals, environment and society. Therefore, 62% of students know the meaning of ethical consumerism. Apart from that it has also been found that 41% of the students consult with their parents or colleagues to make their purchase decision. It helps them to evaluate the products on the basis of purchase experience of previous buyers. Therefore, students seek advice on buying the product or should count on other products or brand. On the other hand, some of the students responded search information about the products over the internet for making buying decision. Therefore, the review that has been given by earlier buyers highly impacts their behaviour before buying the product. If they are satisfied with the reviews then they tend to buy the products. Furthermore, the students also agree on the fact that all the customers should consider ethical buying so that environment can be enhanced. It will also improve the health quality of the consumers and they will become more responsible towards the society. The product producing firm will also then adopt ethical approach in abolishing the u se of scarce natural resources and illegal use of animals in their food products. Conclusion From the overall study, it can be concluded that ethical consumerism is trending at better pace all over the globe, mostly in the developed nation and where the natural resources are limited. The mask is said to bring out a mans inner- most desires and when Carrey puts it on he becomes a man who is basically a hopeless romantic and a clown making the audience laugh without abandon. Another time clicked the random button and a baby blue color came into the background and it reminded me of the time I went to Cliff Lake. Cliff Lake is a place just outside Yellowstone National Park where I had the best experience of my life. This lake was made by the runoff of snow from the mountains surrounding it on all sides. The water in this lake looks like that of the Caribbean Sea. Also, because the water was from the melted snow it was around forty degrees and the sand around the lake on a few places was white sand. It is a little piece Of heaven in the middle Of the mountains. And to top it all Off along the left side of the lake there were three or four ropes swings a ways up the mountainside to swing into the lake. I truly can not describe the feeling you get hen you get up the side of the mountain and take that jump holding onto the rope and when you let go being fifty to sixty feet above he water and as you let go looking down into the crystal clear blue water that when you enter it takes your breath away from the sheer chill of the water. A third mood encountered was one time the screen turned black completely and it reminded me of the time went to one of my friends fathers funeral who died of kidney cancer while his daughter was still a senior in high school. I have ever seen so many people at a funeral and her father was one of the greatest men have ever met, He cared about everybody, never complained about the situation he was in, and he always wanted what was best tort his two daughters no matter what, The picture and different colors to me brought back different memories and different situations. Im sure other people saw the picture differently but thats the beauty of art. It is one of the few things that people can all interpret differently and one of the things has different meaning for everyone.
